A hobby trainer with one well-related horse celebrated a milestone win at Mornington on Saturday.
Matthew Gilmore prepared five-year-old gelding Tallat, a half-brother to $3 million earner Fiumicino, to score a first-up win in the EJ & NA Turner Handicap (1200m).
An electrician by trade, Gilmore said Tallat was the only horse in his care.
"This is just a hobby. It's hard enough just training one horse at the moment, but it was good to get a result today," he said.
"I've had a couple of picnic wins and a non-TAB win. But this horse is a bit better than that."
Tallat was formerly trained by Peter Snowden for the Darley operation and won three of his seven starts.
Gilmore bought the horse for $6,500 at a tried horse sale last December.
"We didn't pay a lot for him. He had a wind problem so he's been off and had an operation. Fingers crossed it all seems to have worked well," Gilmore said.
"He's paid us back already."
After two unsuccessful starts for Gilmore in January the gelding had a long break and returned with an all-the-way win on Saturday.
Tallat ($26) scored by a short neck over Malan ($3.40) with favourite Red Samurai ($2.50) 1-1/4 lengths away third.
