Some timely advice from former jockey Jeff Lloyd provided the inspiration for apprentice Tegan Harrison to score an all-the-way win aboard Epic Terra at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Harrison sought some coaching from Lloyd, who retired from riding after suffering a stroke in March, on how to refine her front-running tactics at Eagle Farm.
"I said to Jeff that I can ride leaders very comfortably at Doomben but not so much at Eagle Farm," Harrison said.
"He said to me to get out and walk the track which I did to get more familiar with where the markings are for the furlong post so I think that definitely helped."
Harrison took Epic Terra ($4.40) to the front and the gelding defied all attempts to run him down to score by 1-3/4 lengths from Rothera ($41) with Someday, the $2.60 favourite, 1-1/2 lengths away third.
"Before today I might've been letting him slide a little bit too early here but today I knew exactly where I was and I was able to keep hold of him for a bit longer," she said.
Trainer Matthew Dunn plans to aim Epic Terra at the Port Macquarie Cup (2000m) on October 12.
"He's probably come up better than ever this preparation and we've been considering stretching him out further than a mile," Dunn said.
"I think he deserves a crack at a race like the Port Macquarie Cup."
Epic Terra was Dunn's 17th winner from his past 53 starters which includes nine on city tracks.
