Her debut might have been a belated one but there's no urgency to test well-bred mare Freckle Face in anything stronger than what she's eligible for, starting with her first city assignment on Wednesday.

Freckle Face steps up to metropolitan midweek racing at Warwick Farm after winning a 1000m maiden at Hawkesbury last month at what was the four-year-old's second trip to the races.

As a half-sister to the well-performed Brisbane sprinter Face Value and a close relation to stablemate Diamond Earth, Freckle Face can boost her future value with a stakes win.

But trainer Anthony Cummings, well known for giving his horses a chance to prove themselves in better races, will take a more conservative route with Freckle Face, a chestnut-coloured mare who has a long white blaze on her forehead.

"We're pretty happy to keep taking on races we think she is capable of winning while spacing her runs," stable spokesman Edward Cummings said.

Freckle Face didn't see any type of racetrack competition until she stepped out in a barrier trial in August.

"She's a stocky girl who pretty much had all the aches and pains that horses built like her do," Cummings said.

Freckle Face will start from the widest gate in a seven-horse field in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1000m).

"It's been a pretty tailored preparation and she looks the right horse for the right race on Wednesday even though she's poorly drawn," Cummings said.

At least four of her rivals are known for being speed merchants and Cummings says the experience gained from a come-from-behind win at Hawkesbury will serve her well.

"She came off the speed there, clicked up when she was asked to and then won with something in hand," he said.

The stable had a double at the most recent Warwick Farm meeting and despite the possibility of its representation on Wednesday being reduced from four to three starters, there is a chance of another multiple result.

The best of Cummings' other runners is likely to be Fastnet Rock colt Forget Maybe, a Randwick barrier trial winner last Friday who makes his debut in the tab.com.au Handicap (1300m).
