Puissance De Lune will wear winkers in the Cox Plate after pleasing trainer Darren Weir in a Moonee Valley jump-out on Thursday.
Having his first look at the tight Moonee Valley circuit, Puissance De Lune defeated two stablemates in the 1600m jump-out with jockey Glen Boss aboard.
After the hit-out, Boss said Puissance De Lune's fitness levels were now spot on and believes the galloper is "ready to go out there and run the race of his life" in Saturday week's Cox Plate.
The grey wore winkers in Thursday's hit-out and Weir said he would have them on in the $3 million race.
"It's just something different to try to switch him on a bit, get him a bit more focused," Weir said.
Weir and Boss were happy with Puissance's De Lune's work and said he appreciated the Moonee Valley surface.
"I was keen to get him here and have a look at the Valley because obviously he hasn't seen it before and Glen said he felt really well on it and he looked to work really well," Weir said.
"So I'm really pleased with the outcome."
The trainer believes Puissance De Lune, who had a first-up win in the Group Two P B Lawrence Stakes and Group One seconds in the Makybe Diva Stakes and Turnbull Stakes, is close to his peak after four spring runs.
"The plan all along was to try to have him at the top of his game for the Cox Plate," he said.
"We've had him so that he improves with each run and looking at him today he looks in pretty good order. And the way he pulled up, his fitness levels are more or less spot on now."
Puissance De Lune is on the fourth line of Cox Plate betting and third line in the Melbourne Cup market.
