There are still spots available in Anthony Cummings' Melbourne stable and emerging three-year-old Forget Maybe can earn his carnival place if he performs as the trainer expects at Rosehill on Saturday.

The winner of his only start in a Warwick Farm maiden earlier this month, Forget Maybe runs in a benchmark 75 over 1400 metres at the corresponding meeting at which Fiveandahalfstar booked his Melbourne ticket a year ago.

While Fiveandahalfstar went on to win the Victoria Derby, ambitions for Forget Maybe are lower but no less important for the trainer who owns the colt in partnership with his wife Bernadette.

"If he runs well, he will run in a seven furlong race on Melbourne Cup day or the Sandown Guineas later in the month," Cummings said.

"He seems to be a horse of that standard."

Cummings also has Best Of The Rest entered for Rosehill in a similar race to that won last year by Fiveandahalfstar but there are no plans to pay the late entry for the Derby which is due on Friday.

Best Of The Rest, who runs over 1900m, ran third on debut to subsequent Group winner Bound For Earth but has failed to run a place since.

He didn't jump cleanly at Warwick Farm last week and copped a check during the 1600m race, finishing eighth of the 13 runners.

"We won't be paying up for him," Cummings said.

"But hopefully he can run a better race."

Cummings' Derby aspirations are firmly with Drago who will gallop at Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning ahead of Saturday's Group Two Vase (2040m).

Although Drago's only win came in a distance race for two-year-olds, his talent was on display the start before when he ran fourth, beaten just three-quarters of a length, in the Group One Champagne Stakes won by star filly Guelph.

"He is doing well in Melbourne," Cummings said.

Drago is raced by a syndicate headed by Cummings' long time friend and client Julia Ritchie who also shares in the partnership of Fiveandahalfstar.

Depending on how well she travels from Sydney to Melbourne on Monday night, Diamond Earth could line up in Friday night's Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

Diamond Earth was one of three winners for the trainer at Randwick on Saturday, claiming the Group Three Nivison.
