Kelinni needs to win Saturday's Colin Stephen Quality in impressive fashion if he is to be given his chance in the Group One Metropolitan Handicap.
Trainer Chris Waller said the consistent stayer needed to put forward a compelling case in the Group Three 2400m contest at Rosehill if he was to join stablemates Stout Hearted, The Verminator and Permit in Saturday week's Group One staying feature at Randwick.
Waller won the Metropolitan with The Verminator last year.
"He would have to win well on Saturday," Waller said of Kelinni.
"If he was going to be placed in the Metrop he would have to win that race well."
Kelinni was scratched from the Group Three Newcastle Gold Cup (2300m) last Thursday on race morning as Waller wasn't completely happy with the gelding.
The Newcastle Cup was won by Glencadam Gold who is one of the fancies for the Metropolitan along with the David Vandyke-trained Lamasery.
Stout Hearted and Permit are also well in the market for the Metropolitan.
"He (Kelinni) wasn't 100 per cent so he didn't go to Newcastle but he's since worked very well," Waller said.
"It looks like a nice race for him on Saturday. The distance will be no problem at all and he's got form around all the right horses."
Kelinni has won two of his five starts this preparation.
He opened his campaign with a second to Stout Hearted over 1400m and notched back-to-back wins over 2200m at Warwick Farm at his third and fourth runs before a close last-start fourth to Julienas in the Wyong Cup.
In a bit of a rarity, Waller will only be represented in two of the six stakes races on his home track.
His other feature race runners - Here De Princess and Catkins - line up against each other in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality (1200m) for three-year-old fillies.
Here De Princess has been a surprise package for Waller with impressive wins at her only two starts at Wyong over 1000m.
"They are nice fillies, Here De Princess especially," Waller said.
"She has taken all before her in the level we've had her at.
"She steps up to this grade where she'll be tested, but you certainly couldn't fault her form.
"Catkins is not as forward as Here De Princess and will improve with the run."
