Greytfilly on best behaviour for Baldwin

Friday 25 October 2013, 2:50pm

Trainer Barry Baldwin has been surprised by the laid-back attitude of his latest stable recruit Greytfilly, a talented but sometimes temperamental galloper.

Greytfilly is set to make her debut for Baldwin with a return to Brisbane racing in the SITA Australia Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

She was originally trained in Brisbane by Robert Heathcote where she won a race and was placed four times, making her one of the favourites for the Magic Millions Classic before she ran unplaced.

However, Greytfilly developed a reputation for being a little wayward off and on the track.

She flattened a strapper at Doomben in the tie-up stalls last year and could prove a handful in the parade ring.

Greytfilly also was slow to begin in some of her races before rattling off impressive final sectionals.

Earlier this year Greytfilly was transferred to Gai Waterhouse in Sydney where she had three runs without being placed.

Baldwin said the filly had settled in well back in Brisbane.

"I must say with her reputation she has surprised me with her attitude around the stables," Baldwin said.

"She has been nice and relaxed and no real trouble."

He said Greytfilly would have some gear changes for Saturday's race with ear muffs and winkers being added to her race-day apparel.

Baldwin said no plans would be made for Greytfilly until after Saturday's race but the Magic Millions Guineas in January was an option.

In-form apprentice Tegan Harrison has been booked for Greytfilly who will carry 0.5kg under the limit after a 1.5kg claim.

Meanwhile, Caloundra trainer Stuart Kendrick is hoping his good recent run continues with Runway Angel in the Driver Recruitment Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm.

Runway Angel, a Jet Spur filly, won a recent Sunshine Coast trial in impressive style and has been posted as early favourite.

She will wear blinkers for her debut and be ridden by champion jockey Chris Munce.
