Premiership leader Matthew Dunn isn't convinced Epic Terra will prove himself a genuine stayer at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
But if he does, bigger things await.
Dunn landed a treble at Eagle Farm last Saturday to give him 20 winners for the season and a five-win break over premier trainer Robert Heathcote.
Epic Terra has been one of the mainstays of the Dunn stable but has not won beyond 1600m.
However, her ran a mighty race when second over 2000m in the Port Macquarie Cup on October 11, an effort which has prompted Dunn to try him over 2200m in the Tiland Construction Open Handicap at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
"I am not totally convinced that Epic Terra will be a genuine stayer. But his run in the Port Macquarie Cup was great because they attacked him from the 800 metres," Dunn said.
Epic Terra is a noted frontrunner but Saturday's field includes another natural leader in Maling.
"He doesn't have to lead. He has shown he can take a sit and we won't be getting into a mad speed battle," Dunn said.
If Epic Terra can measure up over a staying trip he will be set for some of the bigger winter carnival staying races, such as the Ipswich and Tattersalls Cups.
Smart galloper Splendora has also pleased Dunn and was scratched from Eagle Farm on Wednesday to race in the Hillross Montefiore Hcp (1200m).
The filly came from last to win at Doomben on October 9.
"I didn't know if I had done the right thing when she drew barrier 12 for Saturday's race but then she worked in sensational style on Wednesday morning and I think she is ready for Saturday grade," Dunn said.
