Leading trainer Matt Dunn experienced the lows and highs of racing in the space of a few hours at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Dunn was a shattered man when the stable favorite Epic Terra had to be put down after breaking down in the straight in the first race of the day.
Epic Terra was in front at the 200m when he faltered and was pulled out of the race.
But at least Dunn had half a smile when his filly Splendora ($6.50) stormed home to win the Hillross Montefiore Handicap (1200m).
Dunn has a high opinion of Splendora who he hopes will develop into a Queensland Oaks filly next year.
"We had her entered for a race on Wednesday but scratched her to run here. At first I thought I might have pulled the wrong rein but she worked brilliantly this week," he said.
Dunn said Splendora was a lovely relaxed filly who was looking for 1600m or hopefully further.
"I would love an Oaks filly and I don't know if it is her on her breeding but we can hope," he added.
Splendora had a long neck to spare over Sammi Jain ($6) with Brady `n' Me ($51) a half length away third.
Meanwhile, improving mare Rare Ruby will step up to feature races after her win in the Weareco Handicap (1200m).
Trainer Michael Lakey said connections were keen to get black type for the mare and she would contest a Listed race at the end of the month.
