PM tips Fiorente to win Melbourne Cup

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has tipped Fiorente to win the Melbourne Cup.

But don't take his advice.

"I'm not much of a punter or tipster," Mr Abbott told reporters in Sydney on Tuesday.

"Nevertheless I am putting my small wager on Fiorente.

"It's a very good horse. It's done brilliantly in the lead-up to the cup. It was unlucky last year. Let's hope Gai (Waterhouse) can break her cup hoodoo."

Mr Abbott is attending the opening of the Chris O'Brien LifeHouse cancer centre at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
