A stakes win to Plucky Belle at Flemington on Tuesday has snapped a run of outs for the trainer-jockey combination of Peter Moody and Luke Nolen.
The Moody-trained Plucky Belle stalked Arinosa during the run in the Group Three Lavazza Short Black (1400m) and got the better of the favourite in the run to the line to win by 1-1/4 lengths with a length to She's Clean third.
Moody and Nolen last teamed up for city success in August.
"Pete has probably put me under no extra pressure because the horses aren't performing," Nolen said.
"You always know your job is safe but it's good to get a winner over Cup week."
The trainer and jockey have been a successful combination over the past few years winning premierships and enjoying the career of champion Black Caviar.
Moody said everything went to script in Tuesday's race as their plan to track Arinosa achieved the desired result.
"This filly needs to get back and from an awkward draw we hatched that plan to try to find the back of Arinosa and things worked out well," Moody said.
"She's a pretty good mare and is deserved of a stakes win."
Plucky Belle resumed with a second in stakes company in Sydney last month and only travelled to Moody's Melbourne stable on Friday.
"Full credit to my staff in Sydney. They've `preped' her up there and sent her down in great shape," Moody said.
"We've been a bit dry in Melbourne so we had to steal one out of Sydney to get the job done for us."
