Irish stayer Galileo's Choice has come in for heavy support in Melbourne Cup betting after having his first strong gallop since arriving in Australia.

Connections knocked back the opportunity to take the horse to Flemington on Tuesday, preferring to stay at Werribee where the horse impressed with a 2000m workout.

Centrebet reported almost $30,000 plunged on the horse at odds of up to $26 immediately after the gallop.

Galileo's Choice is now into $18 with money continuing to come for him on Tuesday.

The backing for the Dermot Weld-trained galloper follows a concerted push for 2010 Cup winner Americain on Monday which left him sharing the top line of betting with fellow French stayer Dunaden at $6.50.

Weld ruled out the Flemington trip due to concerns about the firmness of the course proper, preferring to remain at the Werribee quarantine centre where the track condition is more to his liking.

In his strongest piece of work since arriving in Melbourne three weeks ago, Galileo's Choice quickened stylishly over the final 600m in 37 seconds.

"The ground here is beautiful for him, we'd no need to go anywhere else," said Weld's son and travelling foreman Mark.

While Wednesday's trip is meant to only to give the horse some experience in the saddling paddock and the tunnel leading into it, Weld indicated he would test the hospitality of local authorities and "maybe have a little trot down the straight".

At Werribee, meanwhile, Americain and Dunaden will have the most important gallops of their campaigns on Wednesday.

New jockey Damien Oliver will be aboard Americain for the first time and will be asked to test the 2010 Cup winner with some searching work.

Americain completed his normal routine of a 2000m walk, a 2000m jog and a canter over the same distance on Tuesday and indicated his well-being by bouncing off the track as he headed home for breakfast.

Dunaden performed similar, although not quite so vigorous exercise, his best being left until 24 hours later when race jockey Craig Williams puts him through a stronger test.

The Godolphin runner Lost In The Moment, who is yet to gain a Cup start, will have Kerrin McEvoy up in his first gallop since arriving at Werribee last Monday week.
