Kirramosa wins VRC Oaks for Nash Rawiller

Thursday 7 November 2013, 4:03pm

Nash Rawiller's spring carnival fortunes took a turn for the better when Kirramosa won the $1 million VRC Oaks at Flemington.

Rawiller lost the ride on Fiorente and had to watch from the grandstand as the Gai Waterhouse-trained stayer won the Melbourne Cup.

But he was back in the spotlight on Thursday as he called on his famed strength and vigour in the saddle to land the 53rd Group One win of his career on Kirramosa.

In a driving finish, Rawiller lifted Kirramosa over the line to beat Zanbagh with Solicit, who made the running, finishing a gallant third.

Of his rollercoaster week, Rawiller said: "You've just got to roll with the punches.

"We had full confidence. The filly is a really good stayer."

Kirramosa settled in fourth spot but the John Sargent-trained three-year-old was giving Solicit 12 lengths start in the middle stages.

She was still a long way off the leader approaching the turn before rallying brilliantly from the 200m.

"The big question today was if she would back up but it's proven form going through the Wakeful (Stakes) and that's why we did it," Sargent said.
