Leading trainer Matthew Dunn has vowed not to make the same mistake again with La Tikka Rosa.
After La Tikka Rosa was beaten in a midweek race at Doomben in August, Dunn immediately recast her racing program.
"When I first got her I tried her over 1350 metres and that was a massive mistake," Dunn said.
"She doesn't need to go any further than 1200 metres."
La Tikka Rosa arrived at Dunn's stable at the end of last season as the winner of a Bendigo two-year-old race for maidens.
Since then Dunn has transformed the mare into a multiple city winner and he has some black-type goals in mind for the four-year-old.
La Tikka Rosa has won her past three starts in the 1010m to 1200m distance range and has been kept fresh by Dunn since her latest victory at Eagle Farm on October 26.
"She spends most of her time at the beach and now we ride her really quietly in races and let her rip home the last 400m. That's her go," he said.
"Train her soft and ride her soft. I think that's the key with her."
La Tikka Rosa is the $2.70 favourite to make it four wins in a row in Saturday's Buccini Transport Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm.
Dunn said the mare isn't ideally placed carrying 58kg over 1000m but he's using the race as an important stepping stone to the Listed Travel Associates Classic (1200m) at Eagle Farm a fortnight later.
La Tikka Rosa's stablemate Rock Academy has worked strongly since his costly defeat as a $1.60 favourite at Eagle Farm on October 30 and Dunn is confident he can bounce back in the Broncos Members Handicap (1300m).
"He loomed up to win the other day but just died on his run but he'll be a different horse on Saturday," he said.
"His win the start before was enormous when he came off the back of a slow speed and ran past them like they were nailed to the fence."
