Legendary Australian racehorse trainer Bart Cummings celebrated his 86th birthday on Thursday with an appropriate win from a horse trained by his son Anthony.
The Cups King's birthday was recognised in the naming of a NSW provincial race and Anthony, who has stables next door to his famous father at Randwick, did his best to add to the celebrations.
Anthony trained the odds-on favourite Time To Strike to win the Happy Birthday Bart Cummings Maiden at Gosford.
Precedence gave Cummings, who has been training in partnership with his grandson James since the start of the racing season, an early present with his last-stride win in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on the closing day of the Melbourne Cup carnival last week.
And the in-form stayer is favourite to extend celebrations by winning the Zipping Classic at Caulfield on Saturday.
