The first and only time trainer Angela Davies took a two-year-old to Rosehill on a Saturday was memorable for the wrong reasons.
She's A Stalker made her juvenile debut at the track in December last year and failed to finish due to shin soreness.
On Saturday Davies will return with another youngster, Shebrings Diamonds, who will have her first start in the Lidoran Group Plate (1100m).
"She's A Stalker was my first two-year-old runner at Rosehill and this is my next one so I hope it's not a disaster like the other," Davies said.
Shebrings Diamonds is by first season sire, 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring, out of a Rory's Jester mare.
A Magic Millions purchase, she had already won Davies' heart before she stepped into the sales ring.
Davies, who trains at Gosford on the NSW Central Coast, recalls visiting Widden Valley in the state's breeding heartland of the Hunter Valley to inspect some of their upcoming yearlings for sale.
But when she asked to have a look at Shebrings Diamonds, she was all but told to stop dreaming.
"I remember going up to Widden and having a look at her....I know a few of the boys there and one of them said, `oh no Angela you can't afford her. No point in looking at her, you won't be able to buy her'," Davies said.
"I fell in love with her."
And Davies did get her horse.
With the backing of Ronstel Thoroughbreds, which has been one of the stable's biggest supporters, she was able to put together a syndicate to buy the filly.
They had to go to $200,000 to secure her but Davies is hoping Shebrings Diamonds can recoup at least some of her price tag, starting on Saturday.
Longer-term, she has her sights on next year's Magic Millions Classic.
If Shebrings Diamonds can measure up in Sydney, Davies will consider giving her a short break before preparing her for the Magic Millions races at Wyong and the Gold Coast.
The filly is owned exclusively by women making her eligible for the $500,000 bonus for the first four all-female owned horses past the post in the 2013 Magic Millions Classic.
Shebrings Diamonds heads into her debut off the back of a narrow barrier trial win at Gosford.
However, Davies says the small trial field of four made the effort difficult to assess.
"It was a soft trial and we sail into Sydney not knowing if she's got 10 lengths up her sleeve. We'll find out on Saturday," Davies said.
