Schweida strategy to pay off at Rosehill

Friday 15 November 2013, 3:17pm

Brisbane trainer Kelly Schweida figures the horses keeping his name in the news are better off being kept apart on the racetrack.

That's why gifted galloper Cape Kidnappers will be one of the most interesting runners at Rosehill on Saturday.

Schweida also trains the established sprinter Better Than Ready and he says it is in the best interests of both horses to put them in separate races for as long as he can.

"We were going to run him here (in Brisbane) last Saturday but Better Than Ready was in the same race," Schweida said.

"I've only got two or three decent horses and it's better for them not to be running into each other."

Better Than Ready is one of Queensland's leading sprinters and with seven wins from nine starts, Cape Kidnappers is not too far behind.

Cape Kidnappers is set to make his interstate debut as one of the favourites in the Cellarbrations Diamond Beach Handicap (1100m).

It's a sprint race with solid depth and one which Schweida hopes will set up Cape Kidnappers for two important races during the Brisbane summer carnival.

"This race fits into his program nicely because after going 1100 metres on Saturday it's three weeks into the George Moore Stakes at Doomben over 1200 metres then another two weeks to the Lough Neagh Stakes over 1350 metres," he said.

Cape Kidnappers is one of five Rosehill rides for Buffering's jockey Damian Browne.

Browne has partnered Cape Kidnappers three times for two wins but he has not ridden the horse since an Eagle Farm victory in April last year.

He will also ride two horses for Peter Snowden with the most notable, at least on breeding, being unraced two-year-old Careless.

Careless is an Exceed And Excel half-brother to Spring Champion Stakes winner and Victoria Derby runner-up Complacent.
