A week after Christian Reith compared debut winner Earthquake to her multiple Group One-winning stablemate Guelph, the jockey was a little more reserved about Memorial.
But Reith was still impressed with the Peter Snowden-trained two-year-old who took out Saturday's 2YO Plate (1100m) at Rosehill under a positive ride.
The win brought up an early double for the Darley Australia team following three-year-old Suit's over 1200m with Reith again taking advantage of Kerrin McEvoy riding in Melbourne.
A daughter of Group One winner Mnemosyne, Memorial eased from $2.70 to $4.60 and was displaced at the head of the market by her stablemate Careless who was crunched late from $7 to $3.60.
Punters were off beam with Memorial assuming the lead early and going on to the post with a 2-1/4 length advantage over Stratalena ($7.50).
Damian Browne immediately protested against Stratalena's jockey Damien Thornton and Careless was promoted to second after stewards agreed the jockey had been impeded more than once in the straight.
"She's no Earthquake but she's pretty good," Reith said.
"She has come on a lot since her barrier trial and I was surprised with how well she went today.
"There is still a lot of improvement in her."
Foreman Brad Widdup said Memorial was a professional filly with big future.
"She has a good attitude to racing," he said.
"A lot of time the two-year-olds can run well in trials but don't produce on raceday.
"We'll just see how she pulls up. Sometimes Peter likes to give them another run and get a bit of prize money now before the autumn two-year-old races."
If things had gone to plan, Suit would have been running at Caulfield on Saturday in the Sandown Guineas.
But after his sixth at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day, Snowden sent him back to Sydney and he took care of his four rivals with ease, beating Good Job Bro by three lengths.
"He was a pretty talented horse in a small field," Widdup said.
"Peter took him down to Melbourne and things didn't go right, and coming back back here this time of year you hope they do that."
