Kensington track holds up despite rain

Thursday 21 November 2013, 4:28pm

The new Kensington track has shown remarkable drying capabilities ahead of its first Saturday test.

Despite almost 100mm of rain falling at Randwick during the past week, the all-weather surface has been rated in the good category.

The track recently underwent a $1.7 million renovation before it was reopened for racing in October.

Randwick track manager Nevesh Ramdhani said the Australian Turf Club was thrilled will how well it had coped.

"We are very happy with the track and despite all the rain that has been around Sydney all week, and the weather forecast of showers on Friday and Saturday, we will have a great racing surface," he said.

While the Kensington track will host its first Saturday meeting since the renovation, the Randwick course proper has been closed for annual maintenance.

The next meeting on the main track will be the Villiers Stakes program on December 14.
