Girl In Flight set for city debut

Monday 25 November 2013, 6:35pm

Girl In Flight will attempt to make a winning introduction to city racing this weekend and extend the unbeaten start to her career.

But which race she contests - and at which course - is still up in the air.

The undefeated daughter of Commands will be nominated for two races at Caulfield on Saturday and also a Moonee Valley event on Friday night, with trainer Robbie Griffiths to study the entries before making his mind up.

Girl In Flight backed up a two-length maiden win at Pakenham last month with an impressive victory by the same margin over 1400m at Sale last Wednesday.

"She won a low-level maiden but won with style and then we raised the bar and she handled the situation particularly well and won with a bit of authority," Griffiths said.

"So she could be one that could take another step and if that's the case, whatever she runs in next she'd be a chance in for sure."

The Caulfield benchmark races for three-year-olds are over 1400m and 1700m, while the Moonee Valley option is over 1500m and restricted to fillies.

Nominations for Moonee Valley and Caulfield will be released on Tuesday after nominations were extended on Monday because of computer problems at RISA, the official body which processes race fields.

"I'm favouring running her in the three-year-old 1700 but naturally I can't make a decision because I haven't even seen what is in," Griffiths said.

Ryan Maloney has ridden Girl In Flight to her two wins and will be on board again.

Moloney, who won this month's Group Two Zipping Classic on Sertorius, was full of praise for Girl In Flight after her Sale win and Griffiths has also always been a fan of the filly.

"We've always liked her but we've never pushed her because she's a late November foal and she's always been needing a bit of time to develop," the trainer said.
