Questions:

1.             What was the best horse you competed against on the track:

I was lucky enough to race against some unbelievably talented horses in my time. I got a pretty good view of Miss Finland’s rear end when she beat Casino Prince to win the 2008 VRC Australian Guineas – she was a freakishly talented filly. Competing against Excites and Wonderful World in the 2006 Caulfield Guineas was also a thrill. I must say I also enjoy watching the replay of my father (Testa Rossa) carrying 59kg’s to win the 2000 VRC Emirates Stakes, as well as his epic duel with Redoute’s Choice in the 1999 Caulfield Guineas – he was a huge inspiration for me!

2.             Which of your progeny are you most excited about:

I’m very proud to see so many of my young ones doing fantastically in Tasmania at the moment. My 3 year old, Geegees Velvet is looking particularly special. He is a half sister to Geegees Blackflash (Clangalang), who himself won the Tasmania Derby, Hobart Cup and Launceston Cup – won of Tassie’s finest horses in recent times! Velvet is showing similar promise and is being aimed at the Tasmanian Guineas in early January next year and the big Tasmanian races thereafter.

I also have some cracking 2YO’s just getting started, such as Geegee’s Doublejay, who is undefeated from 2 starts and continues to develop strongly – bring it on!

Without tooting my own horn, to date I have produced 5 individual winners from just 19 runners – with many still to hit the track for me there is certainly lots to be excited about!

3.             What do you enjoy most about stud life?

Well, what’s not to love!? What a life! I am having a fantastic time at Gee Gee’s Farm – Paul and Elizabeth and the rest of the team take fantastic care of me and although the Tassie climate was a little cool at first, I have grown to love the lush country and surrounds here.

I am very excited for what lies ahead as Paul and Elizabeth have been so kind as to give me the chance at covering an increased number of mares this year – I look forward to watching more of my babies win in Tasmania and around Australia in the future!

4.             What maiden filly would you most like to cover this year?

Geegee’s Laquita is a horse going around at the moment who I think would be a great match for me. She is a daughter of La Quita, who I have covered previously to produce undefeated 2 year old Geegees Velvet. As they say ‘like mother, like daughter’ and hopefully one day I will be given the chance to continue this hugely successful bloodline.

5.             Who is your all time pin up filly?

I’m sure this is a popular response, but it would have to be Black Caviar – she was such a stylish mare, extremely attractive and an absolute champion. I was always envious of the way she would break down her opponents mid race – wow, what a girl! Miss Andretti was another special filly of my era and although I never raced against her, I always kept an eye on her around the stables!

6.             What is your favourite colour? Black, Grey, Brown, Bay or Chestnut

I have no specific favourite colour, however I have been lucky enough to cover some beautiful mares such as La Quita – mother of both GeeGees Blackflash and GeeGees Velvet in my short time at stud to date.

This year has been fantastic as I have covered successful mares from around Tasmania – I am hoping to see even more mares again next year and potentially some who come to visit me from the mainland!

7.             If you were a human what would your profession be?

The staff at the farm often gives me stick about this as they think I would make a great pimp! I don’t see it myself, but they reckon I’d go well in Kings Cross – clad in a white suit and alligator skin loafers, strutting around with a cane. I can’t work out if this is a complement or not - what can I say I love my job!! Personally, I feel better suited to the country air in Tasmania and look forward to a long, successful breeding career at Gee Gee’s farm.
