Ryan Maloney out to continue winning run

Ryan Moloney is confident a successful month can continue at Caulfield when the jockey partners a filly he rates as potentially one of the best horses he has ridden.

Moloney, 28, landed the biggest win of his career in the Group Two Zipping Classic (2400m) on Sertorius this month, his only metropolitan winner so far this season.

He followed it up with a total of five winners at provincial meetings last week and is excited to continue his association with unbeaten filly Girl In Flight in Saturday's Lee Thomas Gift (1700m).

"I think she's probably one of the best horses I have ever sat on, to be honest," Maloney said of Girl In Flight.

"She has a lot of ability. She still doesn't know what she is doing. I think she should just go there and win on Saturday."

Before the Zipping Classic success, Maloney's biggest win was in the Group Three Spring Stakes in Adelaide in 2011.

Girl In Flight won a Pakenham maiden by two lengths last month and backed it up with a strong win by the same margin at Sale last Wednesday over 1400m.

Maloney hopes he can keep the ride on the filly as she jumps in class.

Trainer Robbie Griffiths had Girl In Flight nominated for two Caulfield races and one at Moonee Valley on Friday night but opted for the 1700m event.

Maloney has no doubts the filly can handle the distance rise.

"She has always shown she was going to get a trip," he said.

"She relaxes well in her races and the turn of foot she has shown over 1400 metres, I think she'll show that over 1700."

Two of Maloney's three Caulfield rides are for Griffiths while Mike Moroney has booked him to partner last-start Ararat Cup winner Flashy Fella in the 2000m race.

Maloney knows the importance of making the most of any city opportunities and believes he is riding with confidence.

"You've just got to keep working hard and when you get on a roll, you've got to work even harder to try to prolong it," he said.
