Cummings vindicated about Forget Maybe

Saturday 30 November 2013, 1:46pm

Anthony Cummings couldn't find any takers when he tried to sell shares in Forget Maybe and kept the colt for himself.

The trainer had the last laugh at Rosehill on Saturday when Forget Maybe ($17) came from last to win the Blackwoods Benchmark 74 for three-year-olds.

Cummings has always had a high opinion of the son of Fastnet Rock and entered him for stakes races during the Melbourne spring.

Forget Maybe was withdrawn on the final day of the carnival when he was found to have blood in a nostril, later detected to have come from a nasal fracture.

"He cost $250,000 but no-one wanted to buy him so I kept him," Cummings said.

"I've always thought he was a nice horse and I put him in the big races because I thought he was up to them.

"The plan was for him to be a stakes horse by now.

"He has had a few small issues but I do believe he will be competitive in the autumn.

"That's why I raced him today. He needs to get his prize money up with to get into the races I want him in."

Forget Maybe arrived late to beat Maysoon by a head with Bring A Ring ($10) a nose third.

Favourite Suit ($1.70) finished fifth, a length from the winner, after failing to make much ground in the straight.
