Wearing a pink jacket for luck, trainer Dianne Wynne cheered home her daughter Sally and veteran mare Sensational Report for an upset win at Caulfield on Saturday.

Sensational Report, ridden by the trainer's daughter Sally, was sent out a $41 outsider in the Carpet Call Handicap (1400m) and would have provided little joy for many punters in the opening leg of the quadrella.

But for the Wynnes the three-quarter length success was one to savour.

"I don't think anyone knows how thrilled I am to win with this horse," Dianne Wynne said.

"She's an eight-year-old and we've been struggling for a while to get another winner, Sally and I. It's pretty special."

It was the mare's first win since April 2012 at Sale and first city success since March 2012 at Moonee Valley. The same goes for the trainer.

Wynne decided to run Sensational Report after the mare pulled up well from an unplaced run at Moonee Valley last week and Saturday's event looked suitable.

There was also another reason.

"I need the money," she said.

Wynne, who has four horses in work, recalled a Melbourne Cup day victory with another horse Sensational Spot at Flemington in 2004 when she also wore a pink jacket.

"I remember looking at the picture the other day and it was a similar colour jacket I had on. When I walked in today I thought, I've got a pink jacket on.

"But I still didn't feel confident."

Sensational Report defeated Flying Hostess ($5.50) with 1-3/4 lengths to Winta Chiller ($5.50) third.

It was the second upset in as many races after Loot `n' Run led all the way in The CFV Great Strides Handicap (1400m) as a $31 chance.

Earlier, two-year-old Nordic Empire emerged as a Magic Millions Classic hopeful with a strong debut win in the Flemington Equine Clinic Plate (1000m), while emerging three-year-old Girl In Flight confirmed plans to target next year's Australasian Oaks when she continued the unbeaten start to her career in the Leigh Thomas Gift (1700m).

"She has got a lot of class about her and I reckon she's going to make a real serious horse in the next 12 months," Girl In Flight's jockey Ryan Maloney said.
