Segenhoe Stud is delighted to announce the appointment of Peter O’Brien as General Manager of Segenhoe Stud. Peter commences his employment with the Company following the Magic Millions (Gold Coast).

Peter has worked for Coolmore for nearly 30 years and has been Stud Master at their Jerry’s Plains property since 1996. He has a wealth of experience in all aspects of the thoroughbred industry and is well known and highly respected in Australasia and internationally.

Following the purchase of Segenhoe Stud by Kevin Maloney and the Maloney family in 2010 they have invested significantly in developing the operations which are situated in the heart of the Hunter Valley fronting over 10 kilometres of the Hunter River. They have doubled the size of the property through the acquisition of 5 adjoining properties of virgin horse land and have constructed a state of the art 200 acre spelling, pre-training and rehabilitation facility.

Kevin Maloney, Chairman, said: “We welcome Peter to Segenhoe Stud. We are ambitious in our endeavours for Segenhoe Stud to be a world- leading thoroughbred stud based in the heart of the Hunter Valley. We have a wonderful property, facilities and team at Segenhoe and Peter’s decision to join us is a very exciting opportunity. His reputation in the industry is exceptional. I would like to personally thank our retiring Stud Manager, Royston Murphy, for his loyal and dedicated service to Sehenhoe over the past 19 years and wish him all the best in his new venture.”

Peter O’Brien said: “While it was a very difficult decision to leave Coolmore after nearly 3 decades the opportunity to work with Kevin Maloney, his family and the team at Segenhoe Stud led by Racing Manager Bill Mitchell was a new and exciting challenge that was impossible to turn down. The facilities at the established farm and the 700 acres of virgin land and the commitment and vision of Kevin Maloney to the continued development of Segenhoe Stud is an impressive basis on which to continue to build the operations into one of the leading studs in Australasia and I am excited to be part of that team.”
