Lord Of The Sky has moved to odds-on favouritism to win the opening race at Caulfield after the scratching of boom galloper West Africa.
West Africa had been well supported to back up a nine-length Kilmore maiden win with victory in his first city test in Saturday's National Patient Transport Handicap (1000m) but trainer Mark Kavanagh scratched the colt on Friday.
The three-year-old kicked a feed bin.
"I couldn't guarantee he would be 100 per cent for tomorrow," Kavanagh said.
"There is some swelling around there. It has been scanned, there's no real damage but I wouldn't have him 100 per cent for tomorrow."
The race was looming as an intriguing clash between West Africa and the Robbie Laing-trained Lord Of The Sky who won impressively at Caulfield at his second start in July and recently won a Cranbourne trial by eight lengths.
Lord Of The Sky opened favourite with the TAB on Wednesday ahead of West Africa but the Kavanagh-trained colt attracted a lot early support.
The race has been reduced from 10 runners to seven with Clevadude and Lucky Symbol also scratched.
In a reshuffled market, Lord Of The Sky is a $1.60 chance.
Laing has nominated the Group One Oakleigh Plate as a target for Lord Of The Sky in the autumn.
Kavanagh said he would consider his options with West Africa.
"There's a possibility I may even have to take him to Sydney because there's not a lot of races around in Victoria," Kavanagh said.
"But I'll just wait and see how things are in the next few weeks."
