During his upcoming month on the sidelines, apprentice Serg Lisnyy would do well to study the video of Hugh Bowman's ride on Calming Influence at Randwick.
Lisnyy was outed for his tearaway tactics on the Chris Waller-trained filly two weeks ago when she was overpowered late and ran third.
The apprentice will also have to keep up his training from the Racing Skills Panel.
Waller wasn't too critical but Bowman gave a lesson on how to rate a front runner on Saturday when he steered Calming Influence ($3.60) to a two-length win over Encostanati ($18) in the HQ Insurance Handicap (1150m) with favourite Cry Havoc ($2.60) another length third.
"She wasn't too affected by her last start," Waller said.
"I've never seen a horse go home and lie down for two days. They have to stay up for a long time these days and she's a tough filly."
Deputy chief steward Greg Rudolph said Bowman's ride was one of control.
"Although the filly was coming back in distance from 1300 metres, Hugh was able to control the tempo and the filly still had something left at the end," Rudolph said.
"Last time she just had nothing left."
The win broke a mini-drought for Waller who had gone winless at the past two Sydney meetings, something unusual for the premier trainer.
He said he would assess Calming Influence over the next few days to determine whether she had another run this campaign or went for a short break.
"There's a 1400-metre race in a couple of weeks," he said.
"I'm sure she will go to another level and can win black type next preparation."
