It was the battle of the lords at Caulfield with Lord Durante reversing the tables on Lord Wimble.
Lord Wimble beat Lord Durante at Moonee Valley when they last met but a pull in the weights made the difference on Saturday.
Lord Durante, the $3.50 favourite, made the running in the Kerrin and Rochelle Shortis Handicap (1600m) with jockey Vlad Duric increasing the tempo from the half-way point.
"I knew he was tough, and he was," Duric said.
As Lord Wimble ($8.50) gave chase he encountered some buffeting and couldn't make up the ground before finishing 1-1/4 lengths behind the winner.
Eximius ($6) was a short head third.
Lord Durante has been racing without a break since mid-August and Saturday's win was his first after nine runs during the campaign.
Geelong trainer Simone Ferchie, who learned the racing trade under three-time Melbourne Cup-winning trainer George Hanlon, looks after the five-year-old gelding at the Hanlon property at Leopold.
"He loves the environment there," Ferchie said.
"He wouldn't cope in the city, he's a ratbag."
She will see how he pulls up before deciding if she will continue with his preparation.
"He will tell us," she said.
