Mark Kavanagh has some exciting prospects at weekend but the most anticipated will be that of boom colt West Africa at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
West Africa streeted the field in his debut at Kilmore on November 12, winning by nine lengths over 1112m.
But he had a false start two weeks ago when he was due to make his first city appearance at Caulfield but he was scratched after injuring a leg when he kicked a feed bin.
He takes on more experienced horses when he runs in the Alternate Railway Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley.
"I'm hoping he will go on with it, easy as that," Kavanagh said.
"Kilmore wasn't the best field you will ever see but certainly it was enough to give you a fair bit of encouragement.
"Now he has to reproduce that form in a stronger field."
The Flemington trainer also has two lightly raced but in-form horses running at Flemington on Saturday - Oltre Finito, who has won three of his four races, and three-year-old filly Awasita, who has won two of her three races.
"Awasita has been a breath of fresh air to the stable and Oltre Finito has had his days but there can be situations where he misbehaves," said Kavanagh.
Oltre Finito will have Glen Boss aboard in the Fiesta Star Handicap (1200m) while Damien Lane will ride Awasita in the Beachside Handicap (1000m).
"They are both horses going through their grades so we can't look too much into the crystal ball with them," he said.
"Certainly, we would like to think they will go through their grades during the summer and we'll see where we go from there.
"Hopefully, they live up to their early blooms."
