BC3 prizemoney to go to administrator

Wednesday 18 December 2013, 5:51pm

Prize money earned by horse racing syndicator BC3 Thoroughbreds will be withheld and passed on to the troubled outfit's administrator, Racing Victoria says.

RV said horses owned, either fully or in part, by BC3 Thoroughbreds can continue racing in Victoria.

But any prize money won will be handed over to administrators Moore Stephens who have control of the company's accounts.

RV executive general manager of integrity, Dayle Brown, said prize money earned by part-owners of horses which include BC3 Thoroughbreds as a shareholder, will be paid as usual.

"The scope of our investigation into BC3 Thoroughbreds and the operation of its racehorse ownership business is broad and remains ongoing," Brown said.

"We have spent the past week with BC3 Thoroughbreds management and administrators collecting computer data and collating information.

"We are now reviewing some of the information obtained, but this is a complex matter and it will take some time before we reach a position on whether their racehorse ownership business was conducted in accordance with the rules of racing."

BC3 Thoroughbreds went into voluntary administration last week as its chairman Bill Vlahos resigned his position amid court action over money missing from a collapsed punters' club.

The announcement comes with the impending debut of Black Caviar's half-sister Belle Couture who is due to race at Bendigo on Sunday.

BC3 purchased Belle Couture at last year's Easter yearling sale and retained a 16 per cent share in the filly.

However trainer Danny O'Brien says the administrator has on Wednesday sold the share in the high-profile filly.

"They (BC3) have no further interest in the filly," O'Brien said via Twitter.

"She will accept for Sunday."

Thoroughbred auctioneer Inglis has published a list of BC3 horses to be put up for sale.

It includes six horses purchased from Australian yearling sales this year with a Fastnet Rock filly out of Gambei which sold for $781,000 at Easter the most expensive.
