The Melbourne expansion of Chris Waller's stable probably can't happen soon enough for the leading trainer.
But it remains to be seen if it is completed in time to launch a serious bid for this season's Melbourne trainers' premiership.
Waller is set to increase his Flemington satellite stable early next year from 10 boxes to 26, raising expectations he can win Sydney and Melbourne trainers' premiership in 2013-2014.
A premiership double might be a long shot but one of the more immediate benefits of having extra space will be obvious with 14 acceptors for Saturday's Canterbury meeting.
And he has four of those horses - Brigantin, Said Com, Tromso and Madam Nash - lining up against Hawkes Racing's odds-on favourite Messene in the December Handicap.
Weight of numbers are central to his Sydney dominance but Waller concedes it can be awkward when it comes to programming.
"Obviously the systems in place in Melbourne are doing a good job and that gives me confidence to expand a little bit," Waller said.
"It's certainly going to help our stable here in Sydney and alleviate our problem of having too many runners in Sydney."
After a Boxing Day treble at Randwick, Waller holds a 32-win lead over Peter Snowden in the Sydney trainers' title.
With 14 winners, he is six behind Darren Weir in a congested Melbourne table.
Waller said his shift to a bigger Flemington barn was "likely for the beginning of March" and the timing of his move would have a lot to do with hard how he pushed for a Melbourne premiership.
"We will wait and see how the next few months pan out and if we're within striking distance at the business end of the season we might get serious," he said.
Waller had eight runners at the corresponding Canterbury meeting last year with Caesar's Princess his only winner.
His numbers on Saturday reflect the rapid pace at which his stable is growing but given the ammunition at his disposal for Canterbury, it's surprising Kristy Lee is Waller's only pre-post favourite.
She holds an equal call at $5 with Curfew in the Become An ATC Sponsor Handicap.
Waller has Runhardasun ($5) and Rastro ($4.40) pressing for favouritism in their respective races.
