Robbie Laing is more likely to run two-year-old Boomwaa against his own age at Rosehill rather than against older horses at Flemington.
The trainer has accepted with Maribyrnong Plate winner Boomwaa for Wednesday's 1000m handicap at Flemington but has also entered him for the 1100m 2YO Plate at Rosehill on Saturday.
Boomwaa's target is the $250,000 Inglis Classic (1200m) in Sydney on January 18 and Laing has been looking for a suitable lead-up race for the gelding.
"I'm just waiting for the weights for Rosehill but I've probably got a leaning to go that way," Laing said on Monday after looking at the nominations.
Laing said Boomwaa was the likely early favourite for the Inglis Classic at this early stage on the back of his Group Three Maribyrong Plate win during Melbourne Cup week at Flemington.
In the Flemington race on Wednesday, Boomwaa would have to carry 54kg, the minimum weight, but would be lumping the same weight as older horses.
It is something that has rarely been done in recent times but Laing said it wasn't an issue for him if he chose to go that way.
"I'm not that worried about running against the older horses because if he got beaten I wouldn't slash my wrists. In my opinion he just needs a 1000 metre or 1100 metre (race) before the Inglis Classic," Laing said.
The Rosehill race has attracted 16 entries and is run under set weights plus penalties conditions.
The Inglis Classic at Randwick is restricted to two-year-olds nominated for the Inglis Race Series that were offered for sale at the 2013 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale.
Boomwaa was third in the Maribyrnong Trial on debut in October before finishing fourth in the Inglis 2YO race at Moonee Valley on October 26.
Laing thought the youngster "was out on his feet" after racing wide that day but Boomwaa bounced back with an impressive three length win at Flemington.
"He had a month out after he won the Maribyrnong Plate and he's done extremely well," Laing said.
