Irish apprentice jockey Oisin Murphy, fresh from his first metropolitan win on Danny O'Brien's Settler's Way at Moonee Valley on Saturday, was winning form again on Tuesday.

He won the first race at Echuca on another O'Brien horse, Letsgetsideways ($3.70), beating the $2.45 favourite Riverlea Rakish by a neck in the Dempsey Galvin Maiden Plate (1600m).

"He is still green and babyish so I wasn't asking him too much of him around the turn," said Murphy.

Murphy's UK boss Andrew Balding, who won the Mackinnon Stakes with Side Glance, arranged for the 18-year-old apprentice to ride for O'Brien when the two trainers met during the spring carnival.

In his only other ride at Echuca, Murphy managed to finish second on Firmitas ($7) in the Border Inn Hotel Maiden Plate (1200m).

At Flemington on Wednesday, Murphy will ride five O'Brien horses including promising three-year-old Mokoro in the first race.

O'Brien described Murphy as "a lovely young man and a talented rider".

"I was really pleased for him on the weekend and hopefully he can do it again tomorrow," O'Brien said.
