Meydan first for jockey Twiston-Davies

Friday 3 January 2014, 11:47am

Willy Twiston-Davies celebrated his first winner at Meydan by partnering Maltese Cat to success in the Al Hadeerah Handicap.

Brother of Sam and son of Nigel, Twiston-Davies began his career riding over jumps and was triumphant on Baby Run for his father in the John Smith's Fox Hunters' Chase over the National fences at Aintree in 2011.

He soon switched his attention to the Flat and only last month it was announced he would take over the role as main jockey to the Mick Channon stable in 2014.

In action across Dubai this winter, he won by 1-1/4 lengths on the 7-1 chance at the vast Gulf racecourse.
