Vihanna Victory steps up in class at Flemington after winning a restricted stayer's race last month with the lure of a start in the $350,000 Listed Mornington Cup in February if she can perform.
Trainer Terry O'Sullivan says the six-year-old mare is fitter after her win in the Chandler McLeod Handicap (2500m) at Moonee Valley on December 28 and, with a 3kg claim in the Rain Lover Handicap over the same distance on Saturday, she is primed to run well.
"It's a big step up in class but she is not carrying much weight (51kg) so that will be a big plus," O'Sullivan said.
Patrick Moloney, who rode Vihanna Victory at Moonee Valley, is on $8 second favourite Gottino and has been replaced by fellow apprentice Harry Coffey.
"We've drawn reasonably in the middle of the field, and she's done very well since last start, so we expect her to be competitive again," O'Sullivan said.
"If she can win, or acquit herself well, we might run her in the Mornington Cup."
Vihanna Victory is on the third line of betting at $9.
Chris Waller's Instrumentalist is the $5 favourite after winning two of his past three races.
O'Sullivan, who trains in partnership with his daughter Karina, also has gelding Avighna in the Straight Draw Handicap.
They entered the four-year-old as an afterthought because the prizemoney, together with a Vobus bonus, adds up to $110,000.
"They only had 10 acceptors. He has raced well at Flemington so we decided to jump in and have a go," O'Sullivan said.
