181 two-year-olds remain in Diamond hunt

Wednesday 8 January 2014, 5:59pm

Trainer David Hayes has numbers on his side as he bids to improve on his Blue Diamond record.

But rival trainer Gerald Ryan will rely on just one runner with unraced Rubick as short as $6.50 following his seven length barrier trial win on Tuesday.

Included in Darley's 11 entries is the Peter Snowden-trained Earthquake who is the early favourite on the back of an impressive debut win in Sydney on November 9.

With 181 two-year-olds still in contention after second declarations for the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22, Hayes has 25 entries and Mick Price 16.

Hayes has trained a record five Blue Diamond winners while Price won the race in 2012 with Samaready.

Rubick will have his first start at Randwick on January 25 while Earthquake is scheduled to make her return in the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies on February 8.
