Cassidy to return at Randwick on Wednesday

Thursday 16 January 2014, 12:35pm

Champion jockey Jim Cassidy will make his return from a two-month injury layoff at Randwick on Wednesday.

Cassidy, who hasn't ridden since November due to rib cartilage damage, was in action at the Randwick trials on Thursday.

Among Cassidy's rides at the trials was the Chris Waller-trained Queensland Derby winner Hawkspur who ran fifth in his heat won by Casino Swoop.

The 50-year-old top jockey, who brought up his 100th Group One win aboard Zoustar during the Melbourne spring carnival, suffered the injury after the milestone victory.

One of Zoustar's owners, Sheriff Iskander, gave Cassidy a crushing bear hug following the colt's Coolmore Stud Stakes victory, inflicting the damage.
