Light gives de Sousa first Group One

Monday 5 November 2012, 9:20am

Silvestre de Sousa has secured the first Group One victory of his career, partnering Godolphin's Hunter's Light to win the Premio Roma GBI Racing at Capannelle.

The Brazilian-born jockey, snapped up to ride for Sheikh Mohammed's operation in February, gave the team its third win in the Italian feature.

Hunter's Light was last seen finishing a distant second behind Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix Dollar at Longchamp and got back on the winning trail in good style, beating Feuerbliz by a comfortable two lengths.

"That was a very good performance from Hunter's Light," Godolphin's Diana Cooper said on www.godolphin.com.

"He just idled a bit out in front but has still won convincingly. The horse has improved throughout the season and this was a deserved Group One success for him.

"It was also marvellous to see Silvestre record a first Group One victory.

"There is a possibility Hunter's Light could go to Hong Kong next month for the international meeting at Sha Tin and he will remain in training next year."
