BRISBANE Jan 18 AAP - The new Brisbane Race Club chief executive could be announced as early as Wednesday.
The BRC received 150 applications for the job left vacant by the resignation of Steve Ferguson, who has taken up a position with the Australian Hotels Association.
The club, the largest in Queensland, has been without a CEO for five weeks.
BRC chairman Neville Bell confirmed the appointment was near.
He said he had a business trip overseas on Thursday and would like to have it finalised by then.
"However, it has been the holiday season and that has slowed things down. If we can't get things done by next Thursday it could be another two to three weeks but I would like to get it cleared up," Bell said.
"The staff and members are entitled to know what is going on."
It is understood the club came up with a short list of three applicants not all from the racing industry.
