Andrew Mallyon's reunion with General Truce was a memorable one at Flemington on Saturday as the jockey partnered the under-rated sprinter to victory in the Listed Kensington Stakes.

Mallyon rode the Ricky Maund-trained General Truce in his first five starts as a two-year-old, including victory in the 2009 Group Three Maribyrnong Plate, but was later replaced and hadn't ridden the six-year-old gelding since February 2010.

General Truce was sent out a $16 chance in the straight-track sprint and got the better of his rivals to win by a short neck over Pocket Rockets ($5.50) with favourite Kaiser Sun ($2.40) a neck away third.

Mallyon and Maund's celebrations had to be put on hold for a few minutes when Pocket Rocket's jockey Damien Oliver fired in a protest alleging Mallyon shifted in at the 200m and closed a gap Oliver felt he was entitled to take.

Stewards dismissed the objection, ruling there was a slight shift from Mallyon and also Craig Newitt on Don't Get Excited, but couldn't be satisfied Oliver had obtained a run between the pair or that it would have affected the result.

"He's been a great horse for me," Mallyon, who notched his third career stakes win, said of General Truce.

"I rode him a few years ago when I had just come out of my time and won the Maribyrnong Plate which kind of kicked off my career.

"I lost him for a while but I've been pretty excited all week to get back on him."

The win also capped a good day for Maund who had three runners across Victoria for three wins.

His other wins were at Bairnsdale and the Woolamai picnic meeting.

The victory has earned General Truce a shot at next month's Group One Lightning Stakes over the same course and distance.

"This fellow is always under the radar but he always produces," Maund said.

"I wouldn't have bought him here today if I thought he would have run miserable."

First Command, who was aiming for his third straight Kensington Stakes win, finished seventh.

While Mallyon enjoyed victory in the feature race on the card his younger sister, apprentice Katelyn Mallyon, also rode a winner on Whistle Baby in the Birdcage Handicap (1000m).

Trainers Darren Weir and Danny O'Brien had winning doubles at the meeting while jockey Glen Boss and apprentice Oisin Murphy rode winning doubles.
