Red Tracer set for France

Wednesday 22 January 2014, 1:54pm

Waller revealed yesterday that Red Tracer was a serious chance to head to France for the Group 1 The Prix Rothschild (1600m) at Deauville in July.

While the Queen Of The Turf looms as the mighty mare's main Sydney autumn mission, the plan will be to keep going through to the European summer for the July 28 feature worth 300,000 euros.

Red Tracer finished third in a star-studded heat at Rosehill yesterday, which also featured stablemates Boban, Arinosa, Catkins and Moriarty.

I was trying to find a 1400m Group 1 race for mares, but they were almost non-existent,'' Waller said.

In fact, I think they are non-existent during the period I was looking at.

I thought about Royal Ascot, and there was a mile race, but at Ascot that could be a bit tough. I looked further afield and then found a race in France, with good prizemoney.

But with Red Tracer, it's not a money-making exercise with her going overseas, it's more about it being the trip of a lifetime.

She's an easy horse to train, she can freshen up quickly, we can back off her, we can have her ready for 1200m, 1400m or 1600m.''

Red Tracer, a winner of more than $2 million, is a chance to resume in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) on February 15, with the Coolmore Classic in doubt because of the likely heavy impost she'll receive.

The Queen Of The Turf is a bit later this year, it's weight-for-age, now over a mile and worth $1 million, so that will be her main aim,'' Waller said.

Nash Rawiller had Red Tracer under a strong hold in yesterday's trial, as did Glyn Schofield on Boban, with the pair coming home together.

Boban will resume in the Expressway Stakes on February 8, or be saved a fortnight later for the Apollo Stakes should Waller feel he needs the extra time.

The $4 million Queen Elizabeth (2000m) will loom as his big target, with the tough miler likely to receive too much weight in the Doncaster a week earlier.

Classy grey Arinosa will kick-off in the Breeders Classic and push on to the Coolmore, but remains a chance for the Newmarket, said Waller, who added: ``The Newmarket will all depend on the nominations and the strength of the race''.

Catkins will head towards the Coolmore Classic, while Moriarty is being set for the Ranvet Stakes (2000m).

Real Surreal won her trial yesterday, which was promising given she hadn't been sighted since she won the Magic Millions Classic on the Gold Coast 12 months ago.
