Happy night for Moreira in Hong Kong

Thursday 23 January 2014, 2:16pm

Joao Moreira's scintillating form has continued at Happy Valley with the star jockey riding four winners from seven rides.

Moreira claimed a treble in successive races at Wednesday night's meeting aboard Horse Aplenty, Pearl Win and Twin Turbo before adding the last race on Enthusiasm.

He narrowly missed making it five wins when Ovett finished a short head second in the sixth race.

His remaining two rides, Good Times Roll and Classic Jewellery finished third and fourth respectively.

The quartet of winners took Moreira's season tally to 38 and he sits in second place on the Hong Kong Jockeys' Premiership, 17 wins behind Australian Zac Purton.

Originally from Brazil, Moreira was champion jockey in Singapore before being granted a licence to ride in Hong Kong in October last year.

He has ridden 14 winners from his past five meetings.
