Cox Plate winner Shamus Award and his Newmarket Handicap-winning stablemate Shamexpress have taken the next step towards Group One targets with jump-outs at Flemington on Friday.
The Danny O'Brien-trained pair are launching their late summer and autumn campaigns after spelling at the trainer's Barwon Heads base.
Shamexpress was the more impressive of the two trials, leading for the best part of the hitout before easing up.
Shamus Award was happy to sit behind the leaders in his six-horse heat and was eased up coming to the line.
Shamus Award, who broke his maiden status in his Cox Plate boilover win, will make his return in the Group One CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 8 before the Group One Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 1.
Shamexpress is scheduled to resume in the $500,000 Group One Lightning Stakes at Flemington on February 15 before attempting back-to-back wins in the $1 million Group One Newmarket Handicap on March 8.
Craig Williams partnered Shamus Award in his jump-out and said the colt did everything asked of him and had developed nicely in his time off.
"He was always very impressive in the spring and he's come back and is just a more solid horse," Williams told Sydney's Sky Sports Radio.
Williams looks forward to seeing what the colt produces in the autumn.
"I know they've put a lot of thought into the horse's races and his preparation so it's going to be quite exciting to see how he measures up," he said.
Williams said Shamus Award would have another jump-out next Friday.
Shamus Award has been installed the $7 favourite with TAB fixed odds for the Australian Guineas ahead of Prince Harada at $8.
