Brad Rawiller gets two meetings off ban

Friday 24 January 2014, 5:52pm

Brad Rawiller is free to ride in-form three-year-old Rainbow Storm in Sunday week's Tasmanian Derby after having two meetings shaved off a careless riding suspension on appeal.

Rawiller was banned for 10 meetings at Geelong on Wednesday having pleaded guilty to careless riding.

He appealed the severity and the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board reduced the suspension to eight meetings on Friday.

The jockey starts the suspension after Saturday's Caulfield meeting, where his rides include Anlon in the Listed John Dillon Stakes and two-year-old Ducal Castle in the Blue Diamond Preview for colts and geldings.

Rawiller will still miss Saturday week's meeting at Caulfield along with two midweek metropolitan fixtures but felt getting two meetings off was "as good a result as I could have asked for".

The Darren Weir-trained Rainbow Storm won by six lengths in a 2000m benchmark race against his own age at Caulfield on Boxing Day and by seven lengths in another 1950m benchmark race in Adelaide last Saturday.

Rawiller felt the run in South Australia was an ideal lead up for the Listed Tasmanian Derby (2200m).

The hoop is looking forward to reuniting with last-start Chester Manifold Stakes winner Anlon and goes in confident the gelding is capable of continuing his good form having won his past two starts at Flemington with Dean Yendall aboard.

Anlon beat Limes in a photo finish last start at Flemington and Limes looms as one of the hardest to beat again.

"He just needs a little bit of help with the speed on and if he gets things to order, he's always a great chance," Rawiller said of Anlon.

Rawiller was impressed by Ducal Castle's debut second to Bugatty at Flemington where he sprinted quickly from off the speed to challenge Bugatty before the winner kicked to win by a length.

"I reckon he'll run super," Rawiller said.

"I think he's a really nice horse. I'm sure he'll be better as a three-year-old because he's quite a big horse, but either way he still showed the other day he's going to be amongst them."
