Clarry Conners snr, the father of leading trainer Clarry Conners, has died aged 97.

Affectionately known as Curly, Conners was a trainer for many years, starting off in the country shortly after the second World War.

He moved to Warwick Farm in the 1960s with his 17-year-old son at his side.

Clarry Conners learned the lessons well, going on to be a leading Group One trainer with four Golden Slippers to his name so far.

Conners snr took a keen interest in his son's stable until his late 80s and was a regular visitor until he became ill and entered a nursing home.

His grandson Marc is also a Group One winning trainer based at Warwick Farm while his other grandson Heath is training in Victoria.

"We have had sad news today Clarry's father Clarry(Curly) Conners Snr has passed away, he was 97 so had a good innings," a statement on the Conners Racing website said.

"He had been a trainer for many years, starting off just after the war, and had trained at many venues including Queanbeyan, Canberra and moved to Warwick Farm with Clarry in the mid 60s and stayed here till his retirement.

"He had trained many winners and pulled off many plunges around the country tracks.

"He will be missed by Clarry, Maree, Marc ,Michelle, Heath and Amenah and his great grandchildren Mikaela, Mia, Mitchell, Zara, Zane and Coco."
