Hard work pays for El-Issa

Wednesday 29 January 2014, 3:59pm

Jockey Bob El-Issa was repaid for his hard work with a winning double for leading trainer Tony Gollan at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

The pair combined to win with Satirical Lady ($14) in the Sky International Hcp (1200m) and Pulsar ($3.50) in the Winning Edge Hcp (1500m).

El-Issa's career has been marked by controversy and visits to the stewards room but in recent months he's been riding in top form.

In 2011, he was disqualified for two years for a ride on Bold Glance at Eagle Farm but had it reduced by six months on his return.

He was then forced to ride only on country tracks for several months before again being given his metropolitan licence.

El-Issa has been riding as much as six days a week and has ridden 30 winners overall this season.

Gollan has been impressed with El-Issa's attitude and has been using him on some of his city runners.

"Bobby has been riding some work for us and he is keeping his mind on riding winners which has been good for us both," Gollan said.

Meanwhile, promising filly Not A Singlemoment carried on a tradition of 20 years of winners for north Queensland farmer Joe Rapisarda and the O'Dea family on Wednesday.

Rapisarda has had horses with Townsville trainer Graham O'Dea and then his son Steve O'Dea in Brisbane since the 1980s.

"Mr Rapisarda has been great for our family, first with dad and then with me when I moved to Brisbane," Steve O'Dea said.

The combination has had several top class winners in Brisbane including Bianca Jewel, Call Me Katy, and Ring Me Ruby.

Not A Singlemoment ($4.40) was impressive in winning the Yellowglen Hcp (1000m).
