McMahon keeps ride on Better Than Ready

Tuesday 4 February 2014, 2:13pm

Trainer Kelly Schweida will stick with Brisbane jockey Ric McMahon to partner Better Than Ready in the Group Two Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

There was a suggestion Craig Williams would get the ride but Schweida said connections were happy to go with McMahon.

"Ric has ridden him in all eight of his wins and he knows the horse," Schweida said.

Better Than Ready had a solid workout on the Caulfield course proper on Tuesday in preparation for Saturday.

The four-year-old goes into the Rubiton after winning a Doomben barrier trial on January 21, his first serious hit-out since claiming two races at Eagle Farm during November.

In his most recent victory, Better Than Ready lumped 60.5kg to beat Benny's Buttons in the Listed Keith Noud Handicap.
