Strategic Maneuver has been very promising at stud to date, covering over 100 mares in his first two seasons and just over 90 in his third. On his retirement, Gai Waterhouse said: "Strategic Maneuver was the fastest colt I have trained since Dance Hero and Sebring". At last year’s Great Southern Sale Strategic Maneuver’s first crop averaged $26,750, they are already locked in to be trained by some great trainers in David Jolly, Shaun Dwyer, Matt Laurie,
Gooree Park Stud also have some quality Strategic Maneuver yearlings that have been broken in at the farm and will be distributed amongst their leading trainers including Gai Waterhouse, Anthony Cummings, James and Bart Cummings and Chris Waller – giving him a great chance to make an impression with his first crop.
Last year’s addition to the stud was the gorgeous sun of Mamool in Lucas Cranach, who has been highly popular with breeders wishing to access top quality staying bloodlines.
Lucas Cranach is the hot new sire down in VIC covering over 100 mares in his first season. As a racehorse he possessed tremendous staying ability and explosive acceleration – a multiple stakes winner, from 1800m to 2400m. He is most remembered for his eye catching 5th in the Caulfield Cup on his Australian debut, and gallant 3rd, beaten 1.5 Lengths by Dunaden and Red Cadeaux in the subsequent 2011 Melbourne Cup, where he battled hard to beat home previous Cup winner Americain.
The mares and foals on offer are presented at very reasonable prices and will make for foundation broodmares for the astute buyer in coming years. In addition to the mares, there are also a handful of attractively priced Strategic Maneuver yearlings on offer.
