No decision on where Streama returns

Friday 7 February 2014, 5:14pm

A pleasing barrier trial has confirmed when Streama will return to racing, but not where.

Trainer Guy Walter will nominate the triple Group One winner for the Group One Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday week and also the Group Two Breeders' Classic (1200m) at Rosehill.

The mare finished third in a 795m heat at Warwick Farm on Friday behind sprinters Satin Shoes and Steps In Time.

Walter will set Streama on a path towards the Doncaster and possibly the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in April and says she is forward in her preparation.

"I'm still not sure where we will start her off," Walter said.

"Is she a 100 metre horse? We don't know because we've never tried her over the distance.

"Do we go to the Breeders where she would have to carry weight?

"Or do we miss them both and wait for the Millie Fox two weeks later. Those are the things we have to weigh up."

Streama's three-time Group One winning stablemate Appearance begins her autumn campaign in Saturday's Expressway Stakes after an abbreviated spring campaign.

Joining her in the Group Two race at Randwick is Any Day Will Do who is stepping up sharply in grade out of necessity.

"She went up 13 ratings points for winning the Goulburn Cup," Walter said.

"I was amazed she went up so sharply. It is the equivalent of seven kilos and that is an extraordinary jump for a country Cup winner.

"I need to run her to get her ready for a Group Three race at Flemington next month and this is the only race she can run in on the program.

"In saying that, she is a very nice mare and she won't be disgraced."

Appearance will be ridden by Blake Shinn while premier apprentice Sam Clipperton rides Any Day Will Do.
