Timing is everything with Wednesday's Eagle Farm winner Pretty Face.
The Steve O'Dea-trained mare posted her fourth win from her past six starts in the City Property Services Handicap (1200m), confirming a turnaround in fortunes.
Sent out a $4 chance, Pretty Face scored by three-quarters of a length from Pandora Charm ($7) with a head to Antarctic Dream ($5.50).
Pretty Face ran six seconds from her first eight starts, earning herself a reputation as a professional placegetter.
But O'Dea said the tag had been unfair because Pretty Face had raced in some good two and three-year-old company.
"But I think we have finally worked her out. She has just one short, sharp run and you have to time it just right," he said.
"You saw she got a couple of checks in the straight and it probably suited her because she could then only have the one shot at them."
Pretty Face will now head to Saturday fillies and mares class in coming weeks after giving O'Dea his sixth metropolitan winner since January 1.
He is just outside the top 10 on the trainers' premiership.
Apprentice Kirk Matheson completed a double with Pretty Face's win as he earlier scored on Time To Plunder.
"Kirk is really starting to live up to his potential and he rode that the way we planned," O'Dea said.
Eagle Farm grounds staff will repair a sprinkler which caused problems for the 1000m races.
Stewards ordered the false rail moved after jockeys reported a section of track was soft despite the surface rated in the good range.
Chairman of stewards Martin Knibbs said a sprinkler seemed to have leaked but did not interfere with the rest of the races.
